Installation

Cross-platform – Works on Linux, Mac OSX, and WindowsRequires Adobe Air 2.0 or higher

Installing DestroyTwitter isn’t as conventional as your typical program, but that’s because it runs on AIR.  If you don’t have Adobe AIR installed, grab it from the above link.  Setup is straight-forward and easy.

Once you’ve installed AIR, grab the latest download of DestroyTwitter from their official website.  Installation requires extracting a zip folder and running an Adobe AIR setup file, and that’s all.

Usage

I like the fact that you don’t have to create an account or sign up for any type of new service.  You login to DestroyTwitter using your regular Twitter account name and password.  It’s simple and hooks directly into Twitter’s servers.

DestroyTwitter is easy to use.  Different sections of the application are separated by tabs, but others are accessed by menu buttons.  DT (DestroyTwitter) also has two different modes.  The first and default is an ideal compact mode, which will fit on netbooks and smaller screens without any problem.

If you’re a Twitter poweruser, the fullscreen mode is an integral part of the DestroyTwitter experience.  In Full screen mode all of the tabs are opened simultaneously, this includes: your Home Tweet steam, Mentions, Search, and Messages sent to you from other Twitter users.

If you minimize or alt-tab out of the program you’ll then start seeing pop-up notifications from your all of your Twitter streams, including searches.  These boxes are non-invasive and by default will appear at the top-right corner of the screen.  You can disable these pop-ups for each particular screen, or entirely.

If you follow someone or search for a term that is often spammed by automated updates, such as Farmville and other useless game alerts – you can filter them out so they don’t appear in DestroyTwitter.  This is quite possibly the best reason to use the DT desktop client vs. the online Twitter.com site.

Themes

The first thing that got old when I was testing out this app was the appearance.  If your into the dark grey default, great.  But, I found it rather dreary.  Thankfully there are a total of 8 appearance themes to choose from and many of them offer a lighter touch.

Conclusion

DestroyTwitter is a groovy desktop client for Twitter.  The price is perfect –free-.  And as long as you don’t have a problem with Adobe AIR it is very light-weight.  Whether you are a part—time Tweeter or a full-time poweruser, it is sure to increase your efficiency and keep your Tweets easily manageable. Great write-up. :) Just took a look at your blog BTW – looking good! Comment
