There will be a Deadpool 2 reunion in Detective Pikachu, as Rob Delaney confirms he’s joined the cast alongside Ryan Reynolds. Many were puzzled when it was announced that a live-action Pokémon movie was finally coming to theaters, but that the lead character was a detective version of Pikachu who was able to talk. Things became even more strange when it was announced later that Reynolds had signed on to voice the title character.

Some wondered if the whole thing might be a Deadpool-level joke, but in fact Detective Pikachu is a real movie, and recently the film dropped a real trailer showing Reynolds voicing the titular mystery-solving character. Of course, Reynolds has also done some of his usual hilarious social media marketing to help push the movie. Directed by Rob Letterman, the film sees Reynolds’ wise-cracking Pikachu befriending a young man named Tim (Justice Smith) after his detective father goes missing on the neon-lit streets of Ryme City.

As recently reported by Radio Times, Reynolds will have a familiar co-star in Detective Pikachu in the person of Delaney. The Catastrophe actor confirmed the news in an interview with the website after rumors began circulating on the internet of his “secret” role in the film. Delaney wouldn’t give many details about his appearance, but he did say his part takes place in the real world, so he didn’t get to interact “with any of those weird little whatevers,” referring of course to the movie’s CGI Pokémon characters.

Delaney had a memorable role alongside Reynolds in Deadpool 2, playing the regular guy Peter, who answers a want ad and finds himself becoming a member of the X-Force. Despite his lack of super powers, Peter literally dives right into the action, which of course is bad news for him as the X-Force soon meets a hilariously grim fate. But thanks to time travel, Peter has a chance to live on should there be anymore future Deadpool or X-Force movies. In addition to his role in the Deadpool sequel, Delaney can also be seen in the British series Catastrophe, where for a time he got to star alongside the legendary Carrie Fisher.

It remains to be seen if Delaney’s Peter will get another opportunity to fight alongside Deadpool, but in the meantime, Delaney and Reynolds both get a chance to hop aboard Detective Pikachu. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Delaney gets any screen-time with Reynolds’ character, as he said he doesn’t get to appear alongside any of the movie’s CGI creatures.
