Walt Disney Studios confirms their upcoming movie slate at CinemaCon 2019, including live-action films, Marvel, Star Wars and their Fox properties, like Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants. Each year, movie studios, press and other industry professionals descend on Las Vegas, Nevada, for CinemaCon, the Official Convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) to preview what lays ahead for Hollywood. Typically, studios tease their biggest upcoming movies with footage and presentations from cast, directors and other members of the creative teams.

Already during CinemaCon 2019, Warner Bros. revealed the first Joker movie trailer, previewed Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), showcased the very first footage from the highly anticipated horror sequel IT Chapter Two and unveiled new footage from Godzilla King of the Monsters and Detective Pikachu. Earlier today, Universal Pictures previewed a new Hobbs & Shaw trailer along with a host of other movies that include The Secret Life of Pets 2, Ma,Paul Feig’s Last Christmas and Tom Hooper’s live-action Cats musical. Now, the Mouse House is pulling out all the stops for their first CinemaCon presentation since the Disney-Fox deal closed last month.

During their presentation at CinemaCon 2019, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn revealed the full slate of upcoming movies for this year, including Fox acquisitions like Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants. The full list of movies is as follows: Captain Marvel, Dumbo, Breakthrough, Penguins, Avengers: Endgame, Tolkien, Aladdin, Dark Phoenix, Ad Astra, Toy Story 4, Stuber, The Lion King, Artemis Fowl, Spies in Disguise, The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Woman in the Window, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Ford v Ferrari, Frozen II, Star Wars: Episode IX and Call of the Wild.

Much of this slate should come as little surprise because it largely combines those of Disney and Fox. It includes all the major Disney releases the Mouse House had slated for 2019, along with those that Fox had slated prior to the deal. As such, Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants being included was to be expected. The slate didn’t include an exact date for The New Mutants, but based on its placement, it may be retaining its current August release.

In recent months, the status of The New Mutants has been under a great deal of scrutiny. It was originally meant to release in 2018, but Fox ordered reshoots to make The New Mutants scarier. However, despite the release date being delayed twice, the reshoots haven’t actually been filmed yet. As a result, even the stars of New Mutants don’t know what’s going on with the movie. It was expected Disney would make a decision about the film’s fate. As of now, it appears Disney is planning to theatrically release New Mutants this year.

However, while this is Disney’s current slate, it could potentially change in the coming months. The New Mutants isn’t the only movie on this slate that seems unlikely to make its release date. The sci-fi film Ad Astra is supposed to debut in May but marketing has yet to begin, causing some to wonder whether it will actually release next month. So, although Disney’s 2019 slate looks promising with a mixture of high profile and smaller releases, it remains to be seen if everything goes according to plan.
