Disney+ is the studio’s foray into a digital streaming service and it is packed full of movies, Disney classics, television shows, and original programming for subscribers – but what is the best way to take full advantage of the new service? For only $6.99 per month, the service is well worth taking a look. At first the streaming service may be a little bit daunting with hundreds of choices, but the easy-to-use menus and search engine make it a cinch.

Fueled by the need for content, Disney started buying famous and iconic brands such as Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars over the years to fill up its pipeline. Not content with the likes of just Woody, Iron Man and Darth Vader on its roster, the company also bought 20th Century Fox and its television and film libraries. This eventually resulted in being able to provide Disney+ subscribers a multitude of viewing options.

Built from the ground up to feature entertainment content for almost every age group, the Disney+ website features a clean interface with a large photographic strip at the top of the page. It presents the most recent and popular movies and programs on the streaming site. Right below the picture strip are four main navigation links that include Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic channels. Deeper into the friendly interface viewers can re-discover 30 seasons of The Simpsons, High School Musical: The Musical – The Series and much more entertainment. With that out of the way, let’s go over how best to use this service.

Disney+ Has Decades of Classics and New Programming

When Disney+ launched in 2019, Disney fans were curious about what the streaming service would offer. Now that the service is live, getting the most out of your subscription takes very little time but it is worth the effort. The main page on Disney+ was designed for easy navigation. Titles for films and TV are placed into colorful rounded boxes that can be clicked on much like almost any other streaming service. These are portals to the main page for the film or program you want to watch. Each of the selection of boxes have titles above them including “Recommended For You,” “Originals” (Disney+ exclusive content), “Hit Movies,” “Trending,” “Continue Watching,” and popular Disney classics through “Out of the Vault.”

If you cannot find a particular title on the main page, click on Search at the top of the screen once. This page brings up a small collection of navigation choices featuring “Through the Decades” Collection, “Disney Channel Originals” Collection and more. For Disney fans of the classics, the best search method is “Through the Decades.” From the 1920s thru the present, there are a lot of classics and not-so-classic Disney films to choose from right away. In the mood to watch Unidentified Flying Oddball (1979)? It is on Disney+. Want to watch Watcher in the Woods (released in 1980 and 1981)? It is not available for the time being.

The other method to maximize your viewing hunt is to click on the Search bar and type in the movie or character you are looking for. This method can yield some additional results that may not immediately appear in the main search boxes. Searching by actor or director can pull up some good surprises, as well. Disney+ overall is an easy service to use, and once you are familiar with the search features you can really start to get your money’s worth from the service.
