Disney+ now has a list of the 20 Most Crucial Episodes Of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The Clone Wars was a computer animated, anthology series taking place in the Star Wars universe that depicted the events between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
The Clone Wars were critically acclaimed, and praised for its storytelling, visuals, and characters. Episodes could range from one-off, vignette-type stories, to multi-episode story arcs. The show first aired in 2008 and ran for six seasons, ending in 2014. Several years later, The Clone Wars was revived for a seventh and final season. It will consist of 12 new episodes, and is set to be released on Disney+ on February 21, 2020.
Twitter user BlueJaigEyes shared a screenshot of his Disney+ library, which now has a section called ‘The Clone Wars 20 Essential Episodes.’ The list consists of two episodes from season 1, six episodes from season 2, one episode from season 3, two from season 4, and a whopping nine from season 5. There were no episodes from season 6 on the list. Here is the full list below:
- 1x01: Ambush 1x05: Rookies 2x05: Landing at Point Rain 2x06: Weapons Factory 2x07: Legacy of Terror 2x08: Brain Invaders 2x12: The Mandalore Plot 2x13: Voyage of Temptation 3x02: Arc Troopers 4x21: Brothers 4x22: Revenge 5x06: The Gathering 5x01: Revival 5x14: Eminence 5x15: Shades of Reason 5x16: The Lawless 5x17: Sabotage 5x18: The Jedi Who Knew Too Much 5x19: To Catch a Jedi 5x20: The Wrong Jedi
This list was likely released to prepare and build up hype for the upcoming seventh season. It is uncertain exactly what criteria was used to pick these 20 episodes out of a show that ran six seasons and consists of 121 episodes. These episodes could potentially have been handpicked to provide context for the new episodes that are coming. They could even be a clue for what fans can expect on February 21st.
The Clone Wars was a truly phenomenal series, that told some of the best Star Wars stories. The show managed to take faceless troopers that were cannon fodder in the main prequel trilogy, and put them at the forefront while giving them personalities and depth. The series also more effectively documented Anakin’s turn to the dark side, and better illustrated the internal conflicts he experienced. His relationship with Obi-Wan was also better established during the show than it ever was in Attack of the Clones. In many ways, the show was able to fix the mistakes of the prequel movies.
For an animated series that debuted on Cartoon Network, some of the stories were pretty dark. The Darth Maul story arc is incredible and worth a watch. The darker elements of the show were balanced by plenty of fun episodes as well. The series also debuted characters like Ahsoka Tano, who became a fan favorite. It may be daunting to approach any show that has six seasons under its belt, so the list of 20 episodes may be a nice cheat sheet for viewers unfamiliar with it. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is 100% worth a watch for any Star Wars fan. The new season will air on Disney+ on February 21st.
