Disney is launching its own streaming service, Disney+, which will feature movies and TV shows from Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, National Geographic, and more. We first learned that Disney was planning to launch its own platform back in August 2017, with the company announcing plans to begin pulling its movies from Netflix in preparation. Now, we finally have concrete details about what Disney+ will cost, when it will launch, and what content will be available.

Highlights of the service include a full library of Star Wars, Disney, and Pixar movies, and the majority of Marvel movies, which will either be available at launch or become available over the next couple of years as distribution rights gradually revert to Disney. Disney+ will also have original TV shows and movies like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and a revival of beloved animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

What Disney+ Will Cost

That makes Disney+’s monthly subscription cheaper than all the other major options except for Hulu’s ad-supported subscription, and Disney+’s annual subscription is the cheapest of them all. Disney+ will be ad-free, and you’ll be able to download content to watch offline. Disney has also said that there will likely be a bundle with Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

When Disney+ Will Launch in North America

Disney+ will launch in North America on November 12, 2019. By the end of year one there will be 7,500 episodes of existing TV shows, 25 original TV shows, 10 original movies and specials, and 500 movie titles, with recent releases making up 100 of those.

When Disney+ Will Launch Internationally

Disney+ will roll out internationally throughout 2019, 2020, and 2021, with the goal being to have completed the worldwide rollout within two years of its North American launch. Disney+ will be coming to Western Europe and Asia-Pacific countries in late 2019 and early 2020, followed by a rollout in Eastern Europe and Latin America starting from late 2020. Disney now also has a 60% controlling share of Hulu, and is planning to explore international availability for that streaming service as well.

Original Movies Coming to Disney+

Disney is aiming to have an annual production slate of 50 originals by year five of Disney+, and already has a lot of original content lined up. Here are the original movies that have already been announced:

  • Lady and the Tramp - A live-action remake of the 1955 animated classic (available at launch). Noelle - Santa Claus comedy starring Bill Hader and Anna Kendrick. The Phineas and Ferb Movie - Phineas and Ferb set out on a rescue mission across the galaxy. Stargirl - A teen coming-of-age movie based on the novel of the same name. Timmy Failure - An 11 year-old boy and a polar bear run a detective agency. Togo - Based on a true story about a heroic sled dog.

Original TV Shows Coming to Disney+

Perhaps the biggest appeal of Disney+ is the wealth of original TV shows that have been lined up - in particular, shows set in the Star Wars universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While there are plenty of existing Marvel TV series ostensibly set in the MCU, these will be the first series to feature major stars from the movies, such as Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Here are the Disney original TV shows to look out for within the first two years of Disney+:

  • The Mandalorian - Live-action Star Wars series led by Pedro Pascal (available at launch). Untitled Cassian Andor Series - Diego Luna reprises his Rogue One role as rebel spy Cassian Andor. Star Wars: The Clone Wars - A revival of the Star Wars animated series. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier - The two Avengers members team up in this live-action series. Loki - Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Thor’s mischievous brother. WandaVision - MCU series starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. Untitled Hawkeye Series - MCU series starring Jeremy Renner as the eagle-eyed archer. Marvel’s What If…? - Animated series exploring “What if…?” scenarios in the MCU. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series - A movie about a high school musical based on the movie High School Musical. Diary of a Female President - Live-action series about an ambitious 12 year-old girl. Forky Asks a Question - A series of shorts featuring Forky from Toy Story 4 (available at launch).

Existing Movies & TV Shows on Disney+

As mentioned previously, there are 7,500 episodes of TV shows and 500 movie titles coming to Disney+ within the first year of its launch, so we’re not going to mention them all here. However, the highlights include exclusive releases of major 2019 movies, such as:

  • Captain Marvel (available at launch) Avengers: Endgame Star Wars 9 Aladdin The Lion King Dumbo Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Frozen 2 Toy Story 4

While not all of those movies will be available at launch, there will be hundreds of other Disney movies available to watch from day one, including:

One of the biggest perks of Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox is that all 30 seasons of The Simpsons will also be available on Disney+ at launch. Here are some of the other TV shows available at launch:
