The streaming service will notably provide access to Disney content that hasn’t been readily available. The Disney+ Twitter account tweeted the names of every piece of content Disney+ has to offer a couple of weeks ago, and many fans were excited to see rare movies and television they haven’t been able to watch in years all be available in one place. While Disney+ is set to become a streaming giant, the service will be losing a few of its key players in a couple of years.

Disney had previously allowed content from their subsidiaries to be streamed on other platforms. Because of these licensing deals, CNET reports Disney+ will be losing a number of movies in six years when they return to Netflix. While details about which specific movies are scarce, it is confirmed that several popular movies that were released between 2016 and 2018 are included in this deal. However, Disney CEO Bog Iger informs consumers that if you download any movie off Disney+ you will be able to watch it at anytime even if it is taken off the platform (as long as you are still subscribed to Disney+).

Even though the Disney+ catalog is so vast it took Disney over three hours to announce them all, there will be some notable exclusions from the platform on its November 12th launch date. Some of these exclusions are understandable, with recent releases such as Avengers: Endgame not being available until later in the year. Other movies are excluded for no clear reason, like Tarzan and Maleficent.

Disney and Netflix have a history of sharing content. While Disney and Netflix seem to have come to an agreement with sharing the streaming licenses for specific movies, negotiations for other properties haven’t always gone so well. Netflix infamously cancelled the critically acclaimed Marvel/Netflix superhero shows, many of which had their final seasons end on cliffhangers. This supposedly came when Netflix saw ratings drop for many of the shows and disagreed with the storylines Marvel had developed for later seasons. It is also rumored that the cancellation of these shows might prevent these comic book characters from appearing in the MCU proper for a number of years.
