California’s Disneyland Resort announced that it will be raising ticket prices for 2020 in anticipation of Avengers Campus. Disneyland is recruiting guests to become super heroes with the help of their favorite Marvel characters. Spider-Man seems to be the star of the show. He will soar over guests’ heads and even have his own attraction: Worldwide Engineering Brigade where guests can learn how to drive Tony Stark’s latest invention, the Web Slinger. Guests will be able to meet their other favorite Marvel heroes like Black Widow, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Black Panther at “Heroic Encounters.” Avengers Campus is set to open at Disneyland in the summer of 2020 and will hit Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
Raising prices has become an annual tradition for Disneyland. The price hike of 2019 occurred just before its new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge section opened. The new section came to Disneyland on May 31, 2019. Guests are able to fly the Millennium Falcon, train as Jedis by creating their own lightsabers, and grab a drink at Oga’s Cantina. However, along with the perks came the flaws. Guests were floored to see that prices for one-day tickets jumped up by 10 percent, and some of the annual passes increased by 23 percent.
The bad news for Disney fans is that the ticket price inflation will continue into 2020. While the price hike isn’t as significant as 2019, park tickets are now exceeding all-time highs. According to WDW News Today, Disneyland has replaced its 3-tier system with a 5-tier system for 1-day tickets and 1-day park hopper tickets that surpass $200 for the first time in Disneyland history. Additionally, the 5-day park hopper pass has increased by $20 bringing the price to over $400.
Statistically speaking, the peak 1-day tickets increased by 3 percent with the peak 1-day park hopper increasing from 3 to 5 percent depending on the tier. The price difference for the 2-day, 3-day, 4-day, and 5-day passes increases with the amount of days. 2-day and 3-day tickets have increased by $10, 4-day tickets by $15 and 5-day tickets by $20 ranging from a 3 to 6 percent increase.
The inflation is unfortunate. Disney has grown such a dedicated fan base that people will keep coming no matter how high the prices go. Going to Disneyland has become a rite of passage that children are expected to achieve and are shamed for if they don’t. With the amount of money Disney has been raking in from the theme parks, merchandise, and movies over the years, it seems greedy to demand more money from guests despite the costs of all of the updates its making. However, this will likely not deter families from flocking to the happiest place on Earth. Disneyland Resort will likely draw in fans who haven’t visited in many years with the Avengers Campus. However, Marvel fans will have to save up if they want to visit the Avengers Campus this summer.
