Content Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ahead!

At long last, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has arrived in theaters. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, returning to the world of Marvel after fifteen years since the end of his Spider-Man trilogy and it follows in the footsteps of Spider-Man: No Way Home as a major crossover film uniting iconic characters from across the multiverse.

There are many cameos, some nostalgic and others hopeful for the future – like Bruce Campbell, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Charlize Theron. Including several major cameos, each member of the main cast has been part of other popular films and TV shows, and here are their best according to IMDb.

Lashana Lynch

No Time To Die (2021) - 7.3

The film traverses the MCU’s multiverse and along the way showcases different heroes and villains who exist in those realities.  One such character is the Captain Marvel of Earth-838, Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch. She is Carol Danvers’ friend and fellow pilot – using the callsign Photon – and daughter to Monica Rambeau, as first introduced in Captain Marvel.

This is not the first time that a character of Lynch’s would adopt another’s title. Most Recently in No Time to Die, she played Nomi, an M16 agent and the successor to Daniel Craig’s James Bond as 007. At this point, this remains her highest-rated project, though that might change as reviews for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Xochitl Gomez

The Baby-Sitter’s Club (2020-2021) - 7.3

The most consequential introduction in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes in the way of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez aka Miss America. The young and powerful hero was only introduced in 2011, but she has become a fan favorite as an important LGBTQ+ hero and a member of the Young Avengers. Her multiverse-hopping abilities launch the many crossovers and catalyze the entire film.

Gomez is equally as new to entertainment with America Chavez being her first major role in film. She has also been seen in episodes of Raven’s Home and You’re the Worst, but she was best recognized as Dawn Schafer in the first season of The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix. At only sixteen years old, Gomez certainly has an exciting future in and out of the MCU ahead of her.

Jett Klyne

WandaVision (2021) - 8.0

Fans’ hearts broke at the end of WandaVision as Wanda’s children, Tommy and Billy, were erased from reality. Yet the post-credits scene ignited hope that they would be able to return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and this was proved correct in a way. The Tommy and Billy of Earth-838 did have prominent roles throughout the film, popping up here and there

As for Tommy’s actor, Jett Klyne, his best project remains in the MCU with WandaVision, which should come as no surprise given the quality of the show. Fans still hope that Tommy (aka Speed) will return to be part of the Young Avengers, though this might be the end of Klyne playing the role.

Hayley Atwell

The Pillars of the Earth (2020) - 8.0

After her introduction in the first episode of What If…? and her return in the finale, many fans expected to see Captain Carter pop up elsewhere in the MCU. Their hopes bore fruit as Atwell reprised the role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – though it was never confirmed if this is the same Captain Carter. Nevertheless, now that fans have gotten a taste of her power in live-action, they want more

While Captain America: The First Avenger certainly launched Atwell to international renown, she had already established herself as a talented tour de force both on-screen and on-stage. In 2010 she earned a Best Actress Golden Globe for the miniseries The Pillars of the Earth alongside Ian McShane and Eddie Redmayne. This remains her highest-rated project outside small cameos in subsequent MCU films.

Chiwetel Ejiofor

12 Years A Slave (2013) - 8.1

A Doctor Strange post-credits scene set up Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo as adopting his classic antagonistic nature, yet in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness he takes on a slightly different role. Earth-838’s Mordo is actually that universe’s sorcerer supreme and sits on the Illuminati council. Nevertheless, he still ends up fighting Doctor Strange, perhaps signifying their rivalry is a multiversal constant.

Before Doctor Strange, Ejiofor had long established himself as a creative force to be reckoned with. He got his start in Amistad and can currently be seen in Showtime’s The Man Who Fell to Earth. His highest-rated film is 12 Years a Slave alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, and it earned him an Academy Award nomination in 2014.

Anson Mount

Hell on Wheels (2011-2016) - 8.3

A character that many expected never to see again in the MCU was Black Bolt, played by Anson Mount. The inhuman king with an iconically powerful voice was introduced in the ill-fated and much-maligned Inhumans. Yet he was reintegrated as a member of the Illuminati on Earth-838, though he tragically died while fighting the Scarlet Witch, like his colleagues.

Mount is probably best known for either his role as Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds or as Cullen Bohannon in AMC’s Hell on Wheels. In the matter of ratings, the latter takes the top prize for him. In it, he plays a Confederate soldier who turned from a life of revenge to becoming a railroad engineer.

Benedict Wong

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019) - 8.4

Spider-Man; No Way Home revealed that Wong is Earth’s sorcerer supreme, not Stephen Strange, as in the comics. This was played up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and it excitedly showcases him at the forefront of battles more than ever. This adds fuel to the desire for a spin-off Disney+ show for Wong – an idea that actor Benedict Wong supports.

Throughout the years, Benedict Wong has appeared in several different popular films and tv shows, whether as a main cast member, like in The Martian or as a cameo, like in What We Do in the Shadows. His highest-rated project is actually a tie, though, of them, his largest role was voicing as the antagonistic General in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Elizabeth Olsen

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) & Avengers: Endgame (2019) - 8.4

Many fans were elated to see that Elizabeth Olsen would play a prominent role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and that she did in all her Scarlet Witch greatness. As the film’s antagonist – in line with her role in the comics – Olsen delivers another haunting and captivating performance, highlighting Wanda Maximoff as a truly tragic figure.

Olsen has made a name for herself in the role since her introduction in a post-credits scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It would be unsurprising then that her best-rated role would be as Wanda in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Perhaps this will change as more reviews roll in or when Love and Death hit HBO Max later this year.

Julian Hilliard

The Haunting of Hill House (2018) - 8.6

Along with Jett Klyne, Julian Hilliard returns as Billy Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While WandaVision showed the boys utilizing their powers – with Julian’s being magic like his mother, using the codename Wiccan – they did not receive the same treatment here. They were the children of Earth-838’s Wanda, and as such there was no need for such powers there, though perhaps that will change.

Hilliard is only ten, yet he’s already been part of several popular series, such as Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. He seems to find himself well cast in horror-centric projects, which explains why his best-rated role is as young Luke in The Haunting of Hill House.

Patrick Stewart

Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994) - 8.7

Fans were ecstatic when a familiar voice was heard in one trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That voice, of course, belongs to Patrick Stewart, reprising his popular role as Charles Xavier aka Professor X. Though he’s here, this is a different Professor X to the one X-Men audiences remember. Nevertheless, this might finally signal the arrival of mutants into the main continuity and universe.

The question of what is his most iconic role has been reignited, with some saying it is Professor X and others supporting Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. According to IMDb, the latter takes the cake and still remains his best.

Rachel McAdams

True Detective (2014-2019) - 8.9

Rachel McAdams returns to play two variations of his ex, Christine Palmer – one from the main universe, designated Earth 616 by her Earth-838 counterpart – but in the end, Stephen Strange is unable to get the girl. Nevertheless, Christine ends up supporting Stephen and helping him come to terms with the end of their connection, thus leaving the door – or interdimensional portal – open for Charlize Theron as Clea.

There is no shortage of popular Rachel McAdams projects to reference as her best, but many fans have decided that that superlative goes to her time on True Detective. She was a main cast member alongside Colin Farrel, Vince Vaughn, Kelly Reilly, and Taylor Kitsch. A close second is one of her earliest credits, the Shakespearean comedy, Slings and Arrows.

John Krasinski

The Office (2005-2013) - 9.0

One of the most exciting moments in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the introduction of the Illuminati. Some members had been teased in trailers, like Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, Mordo, and Professor X, while others were kept secret including John Krasinski as Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic. This is a dream-casting for many fans – including Krasinski – who are hoping it carries over into the MCU Fantastic Four film.

Naturally, Krasinski is best known for playing the loveable goofball turned dedicated husband, father, and boss, Jim Halpert in The Office. Over more than 200 episodes, The Office helped launch his career as an actor and director and therefore paved the way for the A Quiet Place series.

Benedict Cumberbatch

Sherlock (2010-2017) - 9.1

In his sixth appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Benedict Cumberbatch truly flexes all his acting muscles but portraying not one, but four different versions of Doctor Strange. While the film shows how heroic and immensely powerful he is, it also doesn’t hesitate to highlight his darker and crueler characteristics.

Not only is he the star of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but he also claims the top spot with the highest-rated project of the entire cast. This goes to his time as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock. There is still talk of a fifth season in the future, though it seems less and less likely as time passes and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman get busier and busier.
