Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) Eye of Agamotto from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is recreated using 3D technology. The primary McGuffin for Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange film from 2016 also played a pivotal part in the Infinity Saga as it powered by the Time Stone - one of the six elemental crystals needed by Thanos (Josh Brolin).
After its introduction in Stephen Strange’s origin film, it quickly became a quick fan-favorite prop. Worn as a necklace, it’s one of the most powerful piece of artifact in the MCU. Over the years, fans have seen Doctor Strange use the Eye of Agamotto numerous times. During the opening battle scene of Avengers: Infinity War, it was the subject of Black Order members Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidan’s interest. Thanos’ minions attempted to snatch it from the sorcerer, which they ultimately failed at. It was only when Strange willingly handed out the Time Stone to the Mad Titan in exchange for Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) life that the villain really got his hands on the elemental crystal, leaving its encasing pretty much useless.
The intricate design of the Eye of Agamotto has made it a popular prop from the MCU, and one fan recreated an accurate replica using 3D printing technology. Imgur user with the handle granpappy3 chronicled the process, giving other fans an insight on how it was made. Aside from the actual Eye of Agamotto, the artist also created the stand where it supposedly rests when not in use. Aside from printing the necessary parts, the assembling was interesting to see, especially with its Time Stone fitted with a battery to emulate the glow of the stone from the films. Check it out below, in a Reddit post:
With the Time Stone no longer existing in the present MCU timeline after Thanos destroyed them, while the Infinity Stones from the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame were returned to their respective places, Strange is left without his most powerful weapon. This could pose some big problems for him as the protector of this reality from interdimensional bad guys - something that might be explored in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Not much is known regarding plot specifics of the movie, only that it’ll connect to the Disney+ series, WandaVision and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will make an appearance. In any case, the title itself imply the the story will deal with the idea of the multiverse, and given that, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Strange is reunited with the Time Stone in an alternate reality.
With news of director Scott Derrickson exiting the project due to creative differences with Marvel Studios, it’s curious if the broad narrative for Doctor Strange 2 will change. The filmmaker and the studio didn’t get into specifics about what they decided to part ways, but it may have something to do with the direction they want to take the sequel. It’s no secret that with a lot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s founding heroes no longer around, Strange and other second generation players are expected to become the face of the franchise.
