The long-running sci-fi TV show Doctor Who brings us a creative universe of aliens, monsters, friends, time travel, and the adventures to see it all. The Doctor himself has gone through many incarnations since the 1960s, and one of the more recent ones was the 12th Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi. He and Clara, Bill, and Nardole had all kinds of adventures across the stars.

The 12th Doctor has handed the TARDIS key over to the 13th, played by Jodie Whittaker, but fans aren’t ready to forget Twelve and his contribution to the show just yet. Online, fans are sharing all kinds of wonderful fan art and cosplay of the 12th Doctor, and now we’re going to tour a gallery of some of the best fan art we could find.

Rock And Roll

We start the list with the 12th Doctor having a little fun and appealing to all the rockers watching the show. The Doctor is known for his theatrics and antics, and the 12th keeps this tradition alive with his sick guitar skills. That’s how he’d put it, at least.

The Doctor only acts like that when he’s confident and has a plan, and he’s usually right. This fan art nicely captures 12th’s cocky attitude with a smug grin and a rock star pose, and the coloring effect really makes this piece pop.

Dark Doctor

The Doctor likes to have fun, but he can never forget the heavy burden that he carries. All of the new Doctors, from 9 onwards, are deeply aware of their role in the Time War, and the loss of so many Time Lords weighs heavily on them.

In this stunning digital art, the 12th Doctor is bathed in an eerie blue-green glow, against a mysterious dark backdrop. It almost looks like he’s deep undersea, being illuminated by who knows what. It’s spooky and haunting, and we love it.

Draw A Map

For our third entry, we meet the 12th Doctor in the middle of a project: drawing a map. It looks pretty cartoony and simplistic, but maybe it’s deceptively complex and has a code hidden in it. That would be just like the Doctor.

Not only does this piece wonderfully portray the Doctor’s sense of awe at the universe’s many secrets as he discovers them, but we like the perspective here, as though the viewer is standing on the other side of the drawing surface.

Doctor On The Run

It seems that this piece was drawn for the fourth day of Doctober, and we must say, what a fine contribution it is. This vivid fan art plays out like a comic book panel, and we mean that in a very good way.

This piece gives us a sense of urgency and danger as buildings split apart and cars go flying, but the Doctor doesn’t seem too bothered by it all. He must have a plan to set things right, and we bet he’s headed right for the TARDIS to get to the heart of the problem.

Cracked The Code

This gallery’s fourth entry is in black and white, and the artist took some spare time to bring us this exquisitely detailed drawing of the 12th Doctor in the middle of an investigation. Sometimes, the Doctor needs a spacesuit to finish an adventure, and why not show something cool reflected on the helmet?

Twelve looks curious and a bit apprehensive as he spots this dazzling array before him, and that eye has us asking all kinds of questions. Now we wonder: is that symbol a signpost for what to do next? Or is it a bad sign, and a hint to turn away and run?

After A Long Day

Now the Doctor is finally having a good day. No monsters, no worlds falling apart, no Daleks or cybermen or any Master or Missy. Instead, Twelve has arrived at a beach during sunset, and he is taking it easy.

He must have just saved the world yet again, and he’s taking the time to bask in what he helped protect. We like that calm sense of satisfaction and joy on his face since the Doctor has to endure more than a few horrors during his travels.

Cold Night

Our seventh entry brings us a melancholy Doctor once again, and no doubt something has gone very wrong during his adventures. We love these moody watercolors, which bring a muted color palette to show the Doctor’s grief, dismay, or whatever he’s feeling right now.

It takes a lot to discourage the Doctor or dampen his endlessly optimistic mood, so if that happens, something darkly fascinating must have happened. The Doctor is facing the worst… can he handle it?

Portrait

Now the 12th Doctor is in good form again, and more than that, it looks like he’s posing for a fancy portrait. The Doctor isn’t necessarily vain, but maybe he just rescued a planet and the natives want a painting to remember him by. So he posed for them.

Despite the somber and muted colors here, we can’t deny the 12th Doctor’s courage and optimism here, and it almost looks like something for a recruitment poster. The Doctor asks for courage, curiosity, and hope in his companions. Who will be next?

Making Music

Here is another piece of 12th Doctor fan art that would make for a pretty good comic book panel. In this case, it might be a light-hearted spinoff where the Doctor helps spread the cheer of music throughout the universe. After all, music has the power to bring people together.

We love the vivid colors here, from the red drums to the pink, green, and purple of the lighting effects on the far wall. As for the Doctor himself, his posture and expression clearly show us a Time Lord who’s wonderfully lost in the music.

Doctor Sleep?

Let’s end the list on a light note. We bet that when you’re the Doctor, with incredible burdens of the past and racing thoughts and the stress of having to rescue so many people, getting to sleep may be tricky. We hardly ever see the Doctor asleep.

In this fan art, Twelve is having a slow morning, and his TARDIS coffee mug is a hilarious and charming addition. We like how messy and wild his hair is, and he’s trying to smooth it down to look presentable to friend and foe alike. It’s so like him.
