Does Knives Out have a post-credits scene setting up a sequel to Rian Johnson’s whodunnit murder-mystery? Following the financial and critical - if divisive - success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Johnson set to work on Knives Out. Serving as writer and director on the movie, Knives Out sees Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) investigate the death of mystery writer Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer), and Harlan’s entire family are suspects. Featuring an ensemble cast of A-list stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, Chris Evans and Don Johnson, Knives Out movie reviews have raved about Rian Johnson’s latest film.

Inspired by the Agatha Christie stories he grew up on, Johnson’s movie is a new entry in the murder-mystery genre, but one that’s set in modern day. Since this is a film that’s sure to include plenty of twists and turns as the mystery unfolds, Johnson urged viewers to avoid Knives Out trailers if they were already sold on seeing the movie because the promo videos contain spoilers. Those curious about Johnson’s latest and all it entails had the chance to get tickets for early Knives Out screenings ahead of the film’s official release at the start of Thanksgiving weekend. As Knives Out hits theaters, fans will get a chance to experience this whodunnit for themselves.

Audiences checking out Knives Out in theaters may have one particular question at the end of the movie: Does it have an after-credits scene? Knives Out does NOT have a post-credits scene, or any extra Easter eggs or references - though there is the sound of dogs barking very faintly. While the credits are always worth watching to see who was involved in the making of a film, Knives Out viewers shouldn’t expect any extra scenes during or after the credits.

That’s not to say there will never be a Knives Out sequel, though, since Johnson has said he’d be open to the idea. In fact, Johnson said a Knives Out sequel with Craig returning as Detective Blanc largely depends on whether this movie is a success - which it very well might be. As previously stated, Knives Out has earned largely positive reviews and is officially Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 98 percent (as of this writing). Additionally, Knives Out is projected for a solid Thanksgiving opening weekend box office, and the film could have legs as it offers counterprogramming to other holiday releases. If Knives Out does prove to be a financial success, then a sequel could certainly become a reality - but that remains to be seen.

Fans of the filmmaker have plenty to look forward to with Knives Out hitting theaters and potentially launching a new film series. Further, Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy is still in development, though it’s unclear if he’ll work on that next or another film. Perhaps Johnson will squeeze in a Knives Out sequel at some point if it gets the green light. For now, fans only need to know that Knives Out doesn’t have a post-credits scene, though they can speculate about what a potential sequel could be about amongst themselves.
