Ready Or Not is a deadly game of hide-and-seek, but does it have a post-credits scene concealed at the end? The survival horror black comedy flick is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Devil’s Due) and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures under the Fox Searchlight banner - which makes Ready Or Not a very unusual (and accidental) kind of Disney movie.
In Ready or Not, Samara Weaving (Bill And Ted Face The Music) plays Grace, who is thrilled to marry Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien), the billionaire heir to the Le Domas family - or the Le Domas Dominion as they like to be called. The family, which includes Alex’s father Tony (Henry Czerny), mother Becky (Andie MacDowell), and brother Daniel (Adam Brody), made their fortune through selling board games but they have one peculiar eccentricity that must be honored by anyone marrying into the Le Domas Dominion: at midnight of their wedding night, they have to play a game of hide-and-seek with the family. However, this game has life or death stakes: Grace soon finds out the Le Domas family is hunting her through their opulent mansion as part of a bizarre ritual. Grace has to survive until dawn if she wants to truly be accepted by her new in-laws.
Since Ready or Not is a high-concept horror film, moviegoers might be curious if they should stick around after the movie for any tags or set-ups for a sequel. However, Ready Or Not does not have a post-credits scene. While staying to watch the credits is always worthwhile to show respect to the hundreds of people who worked on the film, those hoping for any Easter eggs or a tease for what could happen next are in for a disappointment.
It makes sense that Ready Or Not doesn’t include a post-credits scene as the film is, refreshingly, a perfectly self-contained story about a woman literally fighting off the in-laws from hell. The movie also has an extremely high body count so many of the characters don’t survive for a potential sequel. In addition, Ready Or Not contains a unique mythology regarding how the Le Domas family gained their vast fortune to begin with and the unyielding rules to their brutal wedding night ritual; a post-credits scene that obviously sets up a sequel could actually undermine the insane (but darkly funny) ordeal that the Le Domas clan puts Grace through.
None of this means that Ready Or Not couldn’t spawn a second chapter, however. Depending on the film’s box office performance, there is certainly a way to continue the story and go deeper into whether other billionaire families also force new additions marrying into their wealth into a sadistic and bloody game of survival. But whether or not there is a Ready Or Not 2 in the future, moviegoers can enjoy the chills and laughs in this film and root for Grace as she tries to survive one horrible night with her crazy new in-laws in Ready Or Not.
