The director of Pokémon Detective Pikachu has confirmed that the production of the film couldn’t have handled a late redesign of its title character, which is what is currently happening with the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. The responses to Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog have been like two sides of the same coin. The two films are adaptations of massively popular video game franchises that mix CGI creatures with live-action actors, yet the reaction to the fictitious characters in each movie has been totally different....

Emilio Estevez is officially returning as Coach Bombay for The Mighty Ducks sequel series on Disney+. Released in 1992, the first Mighty Ducks movie revolved around Estevez’s Gordon Bombay, a hotshot defense attorney from Minneapolis and former aspiring professional hockey player who’s forced to coach a struggling Pee-Wee hockey team. DisplayMate, a company specializing in scientific display testing and calibration, gave the Retina iPad Mini third place in detailed lab tests of three leading 7-inch tablets, criticising Apple for “really bad planning” for what it considers to be out-dated display technology. DisplayMate says that there are two problems with Apple’s use of IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) displays in its iPads. First, although IGZO was the best available technology two years ago, things have moved on, and the LTPS displays used by both the latest Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 tablets are now significantly better....

A survey of 2,500 Americans suggests that most people have got very little idea how much they spend on digital subscriptions – on average, underestimating the cost by a factor of three … Management consultancy Waterstone initially asked people to quickly estimate their average spend on digital subscription services, initially asking for an ‘off the top of your head’ guess in just ten seconds. The average guess there was $79.74....

It appears Diablo 4 microtransactions will be coming to the game, according to lead developer Joe Shely during a livestream that broadcasted during BlizzCon 2019 that also involved Twitch streamer Quin69. Diablo 4 was the first of two major reveals Blizzard made during the opening ceremony of this year’s BlizzCon, and it’s already receiving an influx of attention thanks to how heavily it plays towards Diablo 2, a game that many feel is the best the franchise has ever seen from both a gameplay and lore perspective....

Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge park is now charging $11 for sporks that were free when it opened. Almost eight months on from when the first Star Wars theme park opened in Anaheim, California, fans continue to flock to Disney’s immersive planet of Batuu. At this point, Disney has made good on their promise to open Star Wars themed areas inside two of their parks. As previously mentioned, the first Galaxy’s Edge opened at the end of last May, with the second theme park having opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the end of last August....

According to THR, actor and soldier Michael Mantenuto has died from an apparent suicide, just a few weeks before what would have been his 36th birthday. He was found in his car on Monday, April 24 and his death was ruled to be from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mantenuto was born May 13, 1981 in Holliston Massachusetts. His mother was a therapist and his father an assistant principal and hockey coach....

An explosion which on last Friday rocked Foxconn’s Chengdu plant that manufactures iPad 2s could seriously affect the gizmo’s iPad 2 availability, but not as drastically as originally feared because the site isn’t the only production facility where the device is being made. The worst case scenario has the aftermath of the unfortunate event which left three dead and fifteen injured affecting up to 30 percent of iPad 2 output. The stricken plant only recently began assembling the sought-after tablet, sources tell Asian trade publication DigitTimes....

AT&T has today pushed a nice update to DirecTV Now on iOS. The update adds much-needed support for the 2018 iPad Pro models, as well as new channel and DVR options for subscribers. With today’s update, DirecTV Now on the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros takes full advantage of the new displays. The image above shows DirecTV Now running on the 11-inch iPad Pro. Previously, the video streaming app featured black bars along the top and bottom, which were especially eyesores when watching in full-screen mode....

Hinting at the sea change that will come to the television and movie industries after the launch of the fourth-generation Apple TV, Disney today announced DisneyLife, a £9.99 ($15.43) per month subscription video, music, and book service that will include Pixar’s entire catalog and classic films such as Snow White and The Jungle Book, report The Financial Times (sub. req.) and Variety. Beyond films, DisneyLife will feature thousands of Disney TV episodes, plus hundreds of books and albums, with new content being added as it’s released....

A new trailer for Detective Pikachu is now available online. Back in 2016, the Pokémon brand experienced a new wave of popularity due to the overwhelming success of mobile game Pokémon GO. Seeing that there was clearly an audience for new material in the franchise, Legendary Pictures quickly scooped up the live-action film rights and got to work on Detective Pikachu. Directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) and starring Ryan Reynolds in the titular role, the movie promises to be one of the more unique and (hopefully) entertaining offerings this summer....

Disney has officially launched a new bundle deal today, combining Disney+, ESPN+, and ad-free Hulu into a single package. The bundle deal will save you $6 per month, giving you all three services for a total of $18.99 per month. When Disney+ first launched in December of 2019, there was a bundle option that included Disney+, ESPN+, and ad-supported Hulu for $12.99, but many people wanted the option to choose the ad-free version of Hulu instead....
