Apple just made the Beats deal official, announcing its plans to acquire both Beats Music and Beats Electronics for $3 billion. Apple CEO Tim Cook has conducted several interviews with various news organisations about the deal, revealing some interesting tidbits. The press release noted that Apple will keep Beats around as a separate brand, including Beats’ hardware. Most notably, however, Cook told the Financial Times that Apple will not remove the Beats app from competing app stores on Android and Windows Phone....

Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 episodes end with a “created by George Lucas” credit, so naturally fans are wondering what level of involvement he had with the new batch of episodes on Disney+. The filmmaker’s name is attached to every new Star Wars movie or show since he created the universe, but Clone Wars’ history on television itself makes this a little different, with roots going all the way back to 2003 while Lucas still owned the company....

A pair of popular streaming TV services announced price hikes for customers today. AT&T has announced a price increase for DirecTV Now, while Sony has subsequently increased prices for its PlayStation Vue service. These announcements come a week after Sling TV announced a similar price bump. First, as noted by Cord Cutters, AT&T is increasing the price of all of its DirecTV packages by $5 per month. This means the intro-level “Live a Little” package will increase from $35 per month to $40 per month, while the top-of-the-line “Gotta Have It” will rise from $70 to $75 per month....

Doctor Sleep operates as both a welcome sequel to Stephen King’s novel The Shining, as well as a continuation of Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film by the same name. The popular British television program featuring a time-traveling alien and human companions traversing space and time has been on the air for more than fifty years. Disney’s Aladdin (2019) is the latest of the Mouse House’s live-action reimaginings, and we reveal whether it has a post-credits scene. Over the last few years, Walt Disney Studios has dipped into its library of animated classics for new adaptations of beloved fairy tales and legends. The studio has had a great deal of success with their live-action Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book movies, which stick exceptionally close to their original animated counterparts....

It appears Apple may be working to expand the Dark Mode feature for macOS. Introduced with Yosemite, OS X Dark Mode changes the appearance of just the Dock and menubar to a black translucent style rather than white/silver. A developer/hacker on Twitter has seemingly found a way to activate a more comprehensive dark appearance for some system apps such as Safari or System Preferences, as pictured. It’s unclear what method or technique the developer is using to activate this and there’s no indication that this headed to public release anytime soon....

Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary special episode would’ve looked very different if Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor was involved. The long awaited “The Day of the Doctor” was a tour de force of all things Doctor Who and finally delved deep into the “Time War” mystery that had been simmering since the long-running science fiction series was first revived by Russell T. Davies in 2005. Teaming the then-current Doctor, Matt Smith, with his predecessor, David Tennant and John Hurt’s War Doctor, the landmark episode explored the Doctor’s morality and reintroduced Gallifrey to the franchise in an epic, dual-heart warming final act....
