MIC Gadget runs this blurry shot said to depict Apple’s op-chief Tim Cook visiting China Mobile’s headquarters this morning. A First Financial Daily reporter who snapped up Cook described the executive as being “happy”. China Mobile, the country’s largest wireless operator, confirmed in May that it had “reached consensus” with Apple about supporting their fourth-generation TD-LTE radio technology in future iPhones. Of course, Cook may be touring China Mobile in an attempt to secure a distribution contract as the carrier still doesn’t offer the handset to its 600+ million subscribers....

Apple significantly increased its investment in gaming yesterday with the announcement of its new Apple Arcade service. While details are still sparse on the service, developers are optimistic about what Apple Arcade could mean for gaming. Fandango is allowing its VIP members to see early screenings of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep. An investment note from Deutsche Bank cites Chinese supply-chain reports that Apple has cut production of the HomePod to 2-300,000 units per month, suggesting total 2018 sales in the 3-4M range. A Digitimes report this morning claims that Apple is working with supply chain partners to ready a time-of-flight 3D sensing camera system for the rear camera. This feature would debut in the 2020 iPhone revision. A time-of-flight VCSEL is similar to the infrared TrueDepth camera system found in iPhones today on the front of the device, which enables Face ID. Adding such a 3D-sensing system to the back camera would enable higher-fidelity 3D photo captures, potentially opening up new augmented reality opportunities....

Reuters has withdrawn its report about Apple Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller dismissing talk of a cheaper iPhone, which was based on an alleged interview he gave to the Shanghai Evening News, because the original story has apparently since “updated with substantial changes to its content.” The Next Web said yesterday that it “verified” the legitimacy of the interview with Apple and deemed it official, but Reuters’ retraction seems to suggest otherwise....
