Well-known developer Steve Troughton-Smith, who previously was able to get real UIKit-backed apps running on Apple Watch with watchOS 2.0, now says that he has gotten native UIKit apps running on watchOS 1.0. Smith shared a video showing off the feat, which can be seen via the embed below. Smith also notes that developers can use the PepperUICore framework to build apps like the native systems apps, allowing Watch functions like Digital Crown scrolling to function....

DirecTV announced a partnership with Fox Networks today that will see its subscribers gain access to content in Fox Now, FXNow, and Nat Geo TV apps on both Apple TV and iOS in addition to other platforms. Fox Now and FXNow both have iOS apps and Apple TV apps, while Nat Geo TV is available only on iPhone and iPad. Apple added Fox Now to the Apple TV during the summer, while FXNow became available on the platform in September for select cable subscribers....

Disney Plus has cancelled its Book of Enchantment series, ahead of the streaming service’s launch on November 12. Developed by Michael Seitzman (Intelligence, Code Black), the show was based on Serena Valentino’s Disney Villain novels and has been in the pipeline for almost a year (though it wasn’t confirmed until last February). Valentino’s books have been going since 2009 and explore the backstories for characters like Maleficent, the Wicked Queen, Ursula, and Mother Gothel, while also recounting parts of their fairy tales from their perspectives....

Apple continues to talk high praise of Apple Music, most recently leaking that the service has 10 million paying subscribers, but it has remained somewhat quiet about its Beats 1 online 24/7 radio station. Beats 1 launched to much fanfare with Zane Lowe leading the effort, and while it seems to be doing decently, it isn’t a sensation in the music business yet.
